Neal I. Rosenthal
Reflections of a Wine Merchant
Reflections of a Wine Merchant is an intimate tour through family-owned vineyards in France and Italy and a look at the last three decades of controversy, hype, and change in the world of wine. The delightful stories about Rosenthal’s encounters, relationships, and explorations give us an unequaled perspective on winemaking tradition and what threatens it today. One of the leading exponents of the concept of “terroir” -- the notion that a particular vineyard site imparts distinct qualities of bouquet, flavor, and color to a wine -- Rosenthal is one of the more outspoken figures against globalization, homogenization, and the “critic-ization” of the wine business.
6 pm • Neal Rosenthal, a leading importer of limited-production wines of character and quality, will present his book at the bookstore. Free and open to the public, reservations are recommended.
7:30 pm • Wine tasting and five-course dinner at Carpenter & Main Restaurant, held in conjunction with Norwich Wines & Spirits. Dinner is $95 per person, reservations required. For more information about the dinner or to reserve as seat, call the restaurant 649-2922. (Reservations recommended for the book talk, required for the dinner.) |

Summer Greetings--
We celebrate Independence Day on July 4th with fireworks and picnics. And we celebrate Independents Week from June 28th through July 5th. Local First Vermont is sponsoring a statewide celebration of Vermont's independent and locally-owned businesses that are committed to preserving the character and prosperity of Vermont's economy, community, and natural landscape.
Take the “Indie Challenge” and see how many of the goods and services you were planning to purchase are available from your local and independent business neighbors. (Keep your eyes and ears open for news about a regional Upper Valley local first organization . . .)
Respected wine merchant Neil Rosenthal will visit Norwich on Wednesday, July 9th. Details about his book presentation and the wine-tasting dinner are below. This is our only Wednesday evening author event during the summer; we will be bringing author’s books to the Canaan Meetinghouse Reading Series in July, and the Strafford series, sponsored by the Morrill Library in August.
Help us celebrate our 14th birthday and join us for the annual Norwich Square Summer Celebration on Saturday, August 2nd. A number of local authors will be here to sign new books. Come and enjoy the live swing and jazz music provided by Bob Merrill and his band. This event is our way of saying thanks for another great year!
Enjoy the lazy, crazy, hazy, days . . .
—Liza & Penny
