Town House Forum
Thursdays in August • 7 pm
The historic eighteenth-century Strafford Town House will again host a provocative reading and discussion series in Strafford, Vermont, on four August evenings. This summer’s series will feature cartoonists, poets, journalists, and writers, and each presentation will be followed by conversations with the audience. Everyone is invited to pack a picnic and come early to have supper on the Strafford Common with the authors, whose books will be offered for sale by the Norwich Bookstore.
Cartoons & Graphic Storytelling
Come listen as former Cartoon Laureate and New Yorker contributor Ed Koren, and Alison Bechdel, Vermont’s current Cartoon Laureate and graphic memoirist, discuss their art and work.
Ed Koren is a writer and and longtime New Yorker cartoonist whose work is celebrated in a new retrospective book, Koren: In the Wild.
Alison Bechdel, first known for the comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For, earned wide acclaim for her graphic memoir, Fun Home, which was made into a musical and won a Tony. Her second graphic memoir, Are You My Mother?, was Time magazine's #1 book of the year for 2013. She is Vermont’s current Cartoonist Laureate.
Koren. In the Wild. A collection of cartoons from The New Yorker cartoonist Edward Koren, on country life, exurbanites, locals, and
the ironies of living in the boonies. Nothing is sacred: gas stations, vegetarians, parenting, animals, gourmands, country stores...all
are examined with the unique perspective and creativity of this brilliant observer (and artist) of "the wild."
A fresh and brilliantly told memoir from a cult favorite comic artist, marked by gothic twists, a family funeral home, sexual angst, and great books.
This breakout book by Alison Bechdel is a darkly funny family tale, pitch-perfectly illustrated with Bechdel's sweetly gothic drawings.$15.95ISBN: 9780544002234Availability: Usually Available in 1-5 DaysPublished: Mariner Books - April 2nd, 2013From the best-selling author of Fun Home, Time magazine’s No. 1 Book of the Year, a brilliantly told graphic memoir of Alison Bechdel becoming the artist her mother wanted to be.
