Behind the Red Veil recounts Frank Thoms' seven trips living and teaching in Russia during the Gorbachev era, 1985-1991 - the last days of the Soviet Union - and one trip three years later to the new Russia. He presents an intimate portrait of the Russian people he encountered, their thoughts, feelings, hopes, and fears.
Frank Thoms spent most of his teaching career with eighth graders in public and private schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. For the past eight years, he has lived with his wife in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. He has published four books on teaching including Teaching from the Middle of the Room: Inviting Students to Learn.
