Robin MacArthur | Heart Spring Mountain

r macarthurAlong with Literary North, we are excited to celebrate Robin MacArthur’s debut novel set in Vermont during Tropical Storm Irene. Told from the perspective of three generations of women - a farming widow, a back-to-the-land dreamer, and an owl-loving hermit - we learn of love and loss, hurt and healing. Like Half Wild, her collection of stories (2016), there is a strong sense of place running through the narrative.

Robin MacArthur lives on the hillside farm where she was born in Marlboro, Vermont. She is the editor of Contemporary Vermont Fiction: An Anthology, one-half of the indie folk duo Red Heart the Ticker, and the recipient of two Creation Grants from the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

“In her quietly powerful debut novel, MacArthur demonstrates a commanding ability to weave meaning from separate narrative threads, exploring how the impact of a person's choices can echo through generations, even as a storm washes the past away.” - Booklist

Literary North was created in 2016 by friends of the bookstore, Rebecca Siegel and Shari Altman. It champions the literary arts in Vermont and New Hampshire by providing a carefully selected calendar of literary events in the region along with a blog of musings on books. They partner with the local literary community and also host their own events, including the Mud Season Salon and Poetry & Pie.
