Town House Forum
Thursdays in August • 7 pm
The historic eighteenth-century Strafford Town House will again host a provocative reading and discussion series in Strafford, Vermont, on four August evenings. This summer’s series will feature cartoonists, poets, journalists, and writers, and each presentation will be followed by conversations with the audience. Everyone is invited to pack a picnic and come early to have supper on the Strafford Common with the authors, whose books will be offered for sale by the Norwich Bookstore.
Living Among the Animals
Join us as two of our favorite animal experts - Sy Montgomery, author of twenty-eight books, and Denny Emerson, equestrian, trainer, and author - share their experiences.
Sy Montgomery has written twenty-eight books for adults and children, including The Soul of an Octopus, finalist for the National Book Award, and most recently How to Be A Good Creature: A Memoir in Thirteen Animals. She has been chased by an angry gorilla, bitten by a vampire bat, undressed by an orangutan, and hunted by a tiger. The New York Times called her “Equal parts poet and scientist” and The Boston Globe described her as “Part Indiana Jones, part Emily Dickinson.”
Denny Emerson is an equestrian eventer and trainer, author of How Good Riders Get Good and the new Know Better to Do Better: Mistakes I Made with Horses (So You Don’t Have To).
He has ridden many horses over thousands of miles in all kinds of horse events. He has been inducted into three Halls of Fame: the USEA Hall of Fame, the Vermont Academy Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Dartmouth College Athletic Hall of Fame.
A New York Times bestseller!
National Book Award finalist Sy Montgomery reflects on the personalities and quirks of 13 animals—her friends—who have profoundly affected her in this stunning, poetic, and life-affirming memoir featuring illustrations by Rebecca Green.
