FAQs:

What are your current COVID-19 Safety Protocols?

As of September 2022, face masks are optional while browsing in our store. If you'd prefer to wear a mask, but forgot yours, we have disposable masks available!

We offer contactless “porch pickup.” You can order online, and we can either ship you your books, or put them out on our porch for contactless pickup. You can also call us to arrange this at (802) 649-1114.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, our protocols may change. We will announce changes and updates as swiftly as possible, and we thank you, sincerely, for helping to keep our whole community safe and healthy.

How do I check to see if you have a book?

You can start by typing the title (or a keyword) into the search bar at the top of this page. When a book listing comes up, it will note whether it is “on our shelves now,” “available within 2-10 business days,” or harder to find. Please note that our website inventory only updates once every 24 hours. If you’re looking for a really popular book, it’s worth emailing or calling us to make sure it’s on the shelves before you come down to get it!

We are always happy to check stock for you. Give us a call or send us an email (or, when you’re in the store, just ask!).

Can you order a book for me if you don’t have it?

Yes! You can place orders here on our website, over the phone, or in store. Many books, if they’re in print and readily available, can arrive within a few business days! Some take a little (or a lot) longer, depending on where they come from. We’ll always let you know how long we think it will take for a book you order to arrive.

For some academic and specialized titles, we may require prepayment.

We are not currently ordering out of print titles. However, this is a temporary situation! We’ll update our website when we begin offering out of print sales again (in the meantime, we recommend Biblio.com for all your rare and out of print needs).

Do you sell audiobooks?

Yes! We offer digital audiobooks through Libro.fm. If you’re looking for an audiobook on CD, we can order it. We also sell Ebooks through Kobo.

Do you carry used books?

We don’t, but our friends at Left Bank Books in Hanover, NH (about five minutes down the street) do!

I wrote a book! Will you carry it in your store?

Congratulations! The answer to that question depends a lot on how your book is being distributed. If you are working with a publisher, we may be able to order through that publisher, or through a wholesale distributor. If not, your book may be a good fit for our Consignment Program, which you can learn more about here!

Can I donate books to you?

Unfortunately, we are not able to accept donations of used books. If you have books you need to find a good home for, you can check with Left Bank Books in Hanover, or donate them to one of our amazing community partners: Listen Center Thrift Stores, The Cover Store, or the Upper Valley Haven.

Throughout the year, we do organize specific book donation drives, like our long-running Book Angels program. Learn more about how you can support these programs here!

Are you hiring, and can I come work for you?

When we have an open position, we’ll post it on our Employment Page. Even if we don’t have open positions, we’re always happy to hear from people who are interested in working with us, and we’re always accepting applications! Pick up an application in our store, and we’ll keep it on file for six months.

Are you affiliated with Norwich University?

We’re not! But we often get their phone calls. (Fun fact: did you know that Norwich University started here in Norwich? It was located across the street from our store - near where Marion Cross School is now - until the mid 1800s. It's now located in Northfield, about one hour north of our store).

Where exactly are you?

We’re located at 291 Main Street, right in the center of Norwich, Vermont, in the beautiful Upper Valley! We’re about five minutes away from the Dartmouth College campus, just down the street from King Arthur Baking School and the Appalachian Trail, and just off I-91! For directions to our store, click here.

I heard there’s an Appalachian Trail Message Board near your store. Where is it?

Yep. It’s around the side of the store, between our building and the one housing Blue Sparrow Kitchen. It’s a popular stop for hikers, especially in the summer.

It’s snowing like crazy! How can I tell if you’re open today?

Vermont winters are no joke, and we do occasionally close or adjust our hours due to inclement weather. It’s really important to us that our booksellers, and our customers, stay safe. We always update our social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) when we close unexpectedly, and following us on one of those platforms is the best way to get updates. You can also email info@norwichbookstore.com. Our regular hours, by the way, can be found here.

What’s your favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavor?

S’mores. Not Gimme S’more, but the original S’mores with the chocolate base. They discontinued it, the rascals.

Did I hear that the bookstore has a dumbwaiter?

You did. It’s true. It’s awesome.

Hey, you didn’t answer my question!

That’s more of a comment than a question, really. But feel free to email us with your inquiry, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
